Description

The windows have Gothic pointed arches, with brick surrounds and wooden shutters.

The chapel was built using natural stone from a stone quarry nearby. The two or three families who had lived in the area for a couple of decades helped with the building work, as did prisoners from Vardøhus fortress. Architect Jakob Wilhelm Nordan (1824-1892) from Christiania designed the chapel. Nordan was the most productive church architect of his time
he produced designs for 96 churches and was resident church officer for the Church Department in 1869. The chapel at Grense Jakobselv resembled several of his other churches built for small religious communities around the country. These churches were almost always made of wood, a much cheaper building material than stone.
