Description

These simple sketches demonstrate the main principles of a hydro-powered plant. The turbines are situated in the lowest part of the construction and create mechanical energy when the water flows through. The generators convert the mechanical energy from the turbines into electrical energy. The transformer converts the electrical energy so that it can be sent out along a power line. The water comes from the intake, which is situated higher than the turbines, and is released at a level that is lower than the turbines.
The sketch is reproduced from the book, Norges vassdrags- og energidirektorat: Kulturminner i norsk kraftproduksjon (Norway’s watercourse and energy directorate: Cultural Memories in Norwegian Power Production), Oslo 2006, p. 35.
