The church has a seating capacity of roughly 1,000, and was the largest wooden church in Norway when it was erected. The building was produced by the timber firm Jacob Digre in Trondheim. The sections comprising the building were prefabricated at the factory in Trøndelag and the building was assembled at Vågan. On the interior, the colours were most likely from a renovation done in 1948 and are not the originals. Investigations indicate that the oldest wall colour was light blue, with brown veining and glazing as details. The construction elements such as the columns and roof trusses were a brownish ochre colour which was adorned with a reddish-brown colour. In terms of form these elements are characterised by a slightly arched form, with lavish sculptural forms on the details.
