Description
The church originally had a turfed roof, as Pastor Nissen had planned. This contributed to its rural and traditional appearance, though this was unusual for a church, unusual even in Finnmark, where turfed roofs on churches had been widespread in much earlier times.

Schools Fund. By royal decree it was decided that the chapel should be consecrated by the officiating priest by means of a suitable address at the first church service. Here, the ritual of the Church, which decreed that consecration should be carried out by the Bishop or his replacement, and with the aid of the deanery priests, yielded to the long and arduous journeys involved.
