Lappoloubbal School is situated on a flat terrain with stunted birch trees, approx. 40 km north-east of Kautokeino. The small village of Lappoloubbal has just a few permanent residents and is centrally situated in the Mountain Sami winter pasture area. The purpose of siting the school here was to offer the nomadic Sami an education opportunity as closely linked to their own environment as possible.

Lappoloubbal Primary School is an extended building that is situated in a north-east/south-west direction. The façade is characterized by a sober use of materials, with red-painted wooden panelling and white-painted, rendered leca (clay stone) and corrugated iron on the large, sloping roof areas. The primary school is situated in a weather-beaten area and has got an unassuming roof height.

Norsk kulturråd (Arts Council Norway) supported a group of Sami artists in their work of decorating the interior. Synnøve Persen, Aage Gaup and Josef Halse are behind the interior and exterior execution of this project.
