When the designs for the new, extended and much larger visitor centre were drawn up, it was soon realized that another very large dominating building on the flat barren plateau was not desirable. The solution was to take the expense of building downwards into the rock under the new restaurant. The underground facilities include a circular cinema showing panoramic high definition film, toilets and a tunnel leading down to a large room with a bar and a huge north-facing window.
