"Honningsvåg bystruktur" (5 of 9)
Description
A uniform residential development characterises the hillside in Honningsvåg. Here one will find one-family houses that are one-and-a-half-storied and two-storied duplexes. The houses' floor plans are approximately square, based on the cross plan principle or the two-roomed plan. These types of plans were also common for pre-war building development in Honningsvåg. However, the vertically divided duplexes were introduced as something completely new during the reconstruction period. All of the residencies built during the reconstruction period have saddle roofs and the exteriors are most often clad with wooden panelling. The windows were typically designed in the Funkis style, with central posts and a frame on each side - today most of them have been changed to a single pane window, which is the case with this house. This house was most likely built using a component range drawing, as the majority of reconstructed residencies were. An annexed entrance, with a veranda above, was also a typical feature for reconstructed houses and during the 1950s.
