"Vestre Jakobselv kirke" (4 of 5)
Description
The furnishings were of a simple, traditional character, rooted in seventeenth and eighteenth-century ecclesiastical interior decoration. At the same time, these national romantic forms were influenced by the more modernistic ideals of the day. The detailing was reduced to relatively simple and rectilinear carpentry handiwork, with laths attached where inscribed grooves formed a rectilinear zigzag pattern. In this way, a blend of traditional interior decoration and simple art deco style was achieved, highlighted by orange and blue decoration against bleached-wood, lacquered boards. Originally there was reddish-orange decoration on the benches and seats as well, but this was later overpainted in brown.
