The hospital is situated south of the centre of Sandnessjøen, just by the church, looking out towards the Seven Sisters mountain range to the south and Alstenfjorden to the north. The oldest part of the hospital is a long, symmetrical building clad with natural stone, so-called råkopp (granite veneer). The main façade, comprising the middle wing and the main entrance, together with the two side wings, faces the church and the sea. The eastern side of the old main building was built in 1957 and the western side in 1983. The site is still in use as a hospital and the hospital environment is clearly visible from the various building levels on either side of the original building. Housing for doctors and a nurses' home, which earlier formed part of the hospital, have been pulled down or sold.
