"Glomen" (5 of 6)
Description
Eides byplan.
The town development plan from 1916 was only partially carried out. Due to financial problems, the magnificent plans were impossible to realize. Yet even today one can still see elements at this site which are based on the town development plan formulated by the architects Morgenstierne &
Eide. First of all there is a road running through Glomen which follows the track of the main road and the planned tramway. Further to the west of Nordhaugen one can see the unfinished tramway track that runs between the "town" and the factory. Jæra is the residential area which was largely constructed as planned, with workers housing for letting. The official's residences at Hylla are also localised in accordance with the plan, and the company manager's villa was already located here and was therefore adjusted into the plan, this also occurred with the administration building which we see here in this photo, along with the oldest official's residences. The director's residence by Lille Glomvann and the masonry block in Glomen, which was built like a butcher shop and production premises, were also situated in accordance with the plan.
