Description

Solhov Folk High School stands out as a monumental building where it is situated, on the west side of the fjord Lyngenfjorden, roughly one kilometre south of the Lynseidet town centre. The school is situated on a plain in a sloping terrain that runs from the fjord and stretches upwards to the tall mountains. Standing independent of any surrounding buildings, the school appears monumental, and is encircled by large trees and green lawns. The building is immense with a tower and dormers, and is easily visible from both the road and the sea.

The school is a large wooden building with two main stories along with a loft below the large part of the hipped roof. It stands on a high, smooth plastered pedestal that holds an entire cellar storey. On the exterior, the walls are clad with vertical overlying/underlying panelling, and the roof is covered with cut out pieces of slate. The building is arranged into three rectangular wings that form a U-shape. The majestic quality of the building is emphasized by its monumental entrance.
