"Administrasjonsbygning for sysselmannen på Svalbard" (6 of 6)
Description
This photograph shows the governor's administration building in the foreground, while the governor's estate and transport centre are pictured in the background. The transport centre was constructed in 1956, in order to coordinate the various cable cars from the coal mines in the valley to the nearby shipping port. The overall design of the building is made up of large rough dimensions, providing an aesthetic quality. Both the design of the administration building and the materials used, have a close relationship to the transport centre. For one, the roof and walls that are partially clad with zinc sheeting - a material that appears similar to the corrugated iron found in the transport centre.
