Description

The purpose of Slettnes Light Station, originally built during the period 1903-1905, was to signal the shipping channel along the coast of Finnmark and its first day of action was 15 September 1905. A foghorn which could send a signal every 30 seconds, was installed in 1922.

The first lighthouse keeper was Hans J. Hatteberg and he stayed at Slettnes from 1905 to 1921.
Until 1973 the lighthouse keepers lived on-site with their families and there were four semi detached wooden keepers' cottages. Later on the staff only stayed during the shifts.
