Description
The municipality of Gamvik is situated on the eastern side of the Nordkynn peninsula, including the northernmost point of the European continent, Kinnarodden. The municipality borders Berlevåg to the east, Lebesby to the west, and Tana to the south. To the north is the Barents Sea. Gamvik has around 1000 inhabitants, of which about 700 live in the municipal centre of Mehamn. The remaining population lives in Gamvik, on Skjånes and along Langfjorden. Industry is built up around fishing and fish processing, tourism and service industry. The airport at Mehamn has daily connections throughout the land, and the Hurtigruta (Coastal Express ship) calls in twice a day to Mehamn.
