"Gratangen kirke" (2 of 5)
Description
Untreated concrete dominates the vertical expanses of wall and characterizes the appearance of the entire church. The remains of the formwork boards are clearly visible in the grey concrete and, together with the protruding roof surfaces and vertical lines, this gives the building a rough and brutalist appearance. “Béton brut” (raw concrete) or brutalism is an expression that was adopted during the mid-1950s to describe the buildings of the famous architect Le Corbusier in Marseilles (France) and Chandigarh (India).
