The members of the organisation "Stien langs sjøen" have themselves both initiated, planned and implemented all levels of the project from negotiating right of way, submitting planning applications, raising funds, organising community working parties to do the building work, and the organisation now owns the installations which the members maintain. It has between 200 and 300 paying members who elect its steering group at an annual meeting.
