Description

Near the harbour promenade in the north part of Harstad's town centre, close to the Harstad University College, lies the building that formerly housed the administrative offices for the Store Norske Spitsbergen Coal Company (SNSK). It is nicely situated on a green plain, and faces east towards the sea and the quay. The building was erected in 1919, and the façades was most likely designed by the architect Einar Engelstad. A park lies on the seaside of the building, where a walkway leading up to the entrance emphasises the symmetry of the façade. It is a two-storied building and terminates with a slate covered hipped roof with a slight bend. The façade is vertically divided and clad with vertical panelling that is painted a yellow-ochre colour. Situated above the cross post windows are projecting decorative crowns with a Neo-Baroque style.

Store Norske Spitsbergen Kulkompani was declared listed in 2014.
