Description

Here is the row of boathouses seen from the stone embankment. The large boathouse (to the right) and skjelter boathouse (three from the right) belong to the Arctandria association. These are both built using cog-jointed logs and with parts of the long walls incorporating removable planking, so that large sections of the wall can be opened. The large boathouse, dating from 1980, which covers a ground area of at least a hundred square metres, is built of old materials from town houses in Tromsø. The skjelter boathouse has a ground area of at least fifty square metres. This was built in the mid-nineteenth century in the centre of Tromsø, when it was known as the Bispe boathouse and stood under where Tromsø bridge is now. It was relocated to Stakken during the 1980s.
