Hvilhaug's elongated main wing is situated in a north-south direction. The south end of the wing is terraced. In other words, each floor recedes in relation to the underlying floor. The walls are articulated with an alternating element of solid wall planes, coupled with transparent longitudinal window bands. This gives the impression that the building is divided into different layers.
