Description

The Nordlys Planetarium was also designed by John Kristoffersen Arkitektkontor and was opened in 1989. In terms of form, the building is an octagonal cylinder that arises from the ground and is crowned with a cupola. This octagonal form continues from the cylinder to the base of the cupola and ends with the observation cupola itself. The upper part of the cupola constitutes the observation area. A glass clad entrance corridor invites visitors to the building. Adjacent to the observation cupola is a compact twin tower that has a glass footbridge leading over to the observation platform. Grey coloured glass, that reflects the surrounding area and changes in appearance through changes in light and season, covers the building.
