"Universitetet i Tromsø, barnehage og idrettshuset Kraft" (4 of 4)
Description
Especially on the interior, the building is distinguished by robust and vigorous architecture. The unmodified concrete walls act like a bastion against the terrain outside of the building and a construction of strong logs ascend to support the roof. The ventilation system is based on a principle of natural aeration. In the multipurpose courtroom, the lights are unique in that they turn upwards and the light reflects off white panels down onto the court below.
The actual sports hall is situated two stories underground. On the lower part of the plan there is a parquet floor that measures 900 square metres, and is used for various ball games. The entire courtroom can be divided into 4 smaller courts using partitions. There is also a large three-storied climbing wall, and represents the largest volumes on the building's exterior, rising up from the sod layer. On the ground storey there is also a large weight room and locker rooms. The entrance, reception area and café are located on the upper storey. Here there is also a balcony running lengthwise, with a nice view overlooking the multipurpose courtroom. One can also find a squash court, room for spinning and aerobics, along with tanning beds.
