Description

Breivika Day Care Centre was completed and opened in 1982, designed by Rosemarie and Odd Karl Steinsvik sivilarkitekter MNAL. It is situated in an undulating terrain within a thin grove of dwarfed birch trees. The playground area slopes slightly downwards towards the south and the east. The complex is comprised of two one-storied wings with saddle roofs, which are situated in a right angle towards one another. By its located on the fringe of the site, the building acts as a shield by blocking out the wind from the north. In facing south, the playground captures a significant amount of sunlight.

The surrounding brick walls located in the terrain towards the north are tiered at different height levels. There are covered wooden walkways along the entire length of the building. These are located on the same side as the entrance, facing towards the sun and the playground. They provide a dry playground during the spring break-up period and provide shelter from the rain during the summer months. There is also wooden panelling on the walls.

The Day Care Centre is comprised of 4 departments, intended for 48 children. There are 2 departments located on both of the wings, each with their own entrance. The kitchen and common room are centrally located, with the personnel departed located behind.
