It is quite challenging to separate the difference types of traffic within an airport terminal. A stream of people enter the building (both from the street-side and runway-side) and an equal number of people exit the building from both sides. In addition, there are those who are only making a connecting flight, along with those in the baggage handling area. In the Tromsø Airport, the design resolution was to have a staircase for the outbound passengers, leading from the check-in area to the first storey and onto a walkway to the gate area. When arriving passengers exit the aircraft, they are led along the gate area and down to the first floor where the baggage carousels are located, on one end of the terminal.
