"Bodø kulturhus" (6 of 9)
Description
Bodø’s high street, Storgata, used to be the city’s main thoroughfare, but its use was redesignated in the masterplan for the cultural quarter. Stormen’s end of the street is now pedestrianised though its surfacing is still strong enough for motorised vehicles.
The landscape architects sought to create seamless surfaces akin to the facades of the new buildings by choosing a simple range of materials dominated by granite. Low walls of granite blocks are used to negotiate the difference between street level and entrance areas. The blocks’ smooth top surface provides good places to sit down, and this level of simplicity also characterise other new installations such as handrails, bike racks, lampposts and planters.
