"Bodø kulturhus" (1 of 9)
Description
Stormen, Bodø’s cultural centre, close to the harbour, consists of two buildings: a concert hall and a library which were built on the city centre’s last two not yet developed plots.
The architecture of Stormen interacts both with the surrounding landscape and the neighbouring buildings. The gently sloping roofs echo the shapes of mountains and islands, and the combination of flat and sloping roofs makes the cultural centre an integral part of the city’s roofscape. The urban qualities of the waterfront have also been enhanced by the development.
The façades display a trabeated construction of pre-cast concrete with aggregate of locally sourced white marble. The external walls have either been polished to a pearly sheen or given matte brushed surfaces to reflect and catch the magic light of Bodø’s harbour.
