Description

This large wooden building is one of the landmarks along the main road into Bodø. The southern part of it was built towards the end of the 19th century as a villa for one family surrounded by a large garden, which remarkably has not been developed for other purposes. The building, which is very wide, has a large slate roof and regularly set out elevations dominated by tall windows with crossing mullions and transoms. It has many of the hallmarks of the Swiss chalet style such as high ceilings, extended eaves and low relief external cladding broken by sills marking the position of the floors. The building represents a simplified and disciplined example of a style that is otherwise known for its decorations and playfulness.
