Description

Known trading activities at Skånland date back to the 18th century when the farmer had the right and duty to transport other farmers' produce and goods to and from Bergen and various fishing stations. The first general store was built around 1860. The Schjelderup family took over the trading post in 1890 and they became one of Norways's major shipowners who sent expeditions hunting mammals and birds in the Artic.

Skånland Trading Post was taken over by Anne-Margrete and Haakon Mehren in 1967 and they have put a major effort into looking after the buildings and the grounds. In 2010 the owners were Anne-Margrete Mehren and Kistefos Træsliberi A/S (a forestry and investment company).
