In 1923 the Norwegian Parliament (Stortinget) resolved to extend the railway Nordland Line up to Bodø and by December of 1961 the project was completed. Then on the 7th of June 1962, the official opening was carried out by King Olav V. The Railway Station is located to the east of the town centre and near the sea. It is a three-storied rectangular building terminated with a saddle roof. The building is nearly Classical in terms of form, reinforced by the strict style of the façade. Towards the north and the sea there is a vertical tower annexed to this horizontal building. The façades of the building are covered with mortared hydraulic-pressed bricks from the Bodø Brick Works, which used to be located at the transition between the town and Rønvikleira, close to the current railway station.
