Sheltered from the northern winds, behind the crag on the island Nyksundøy lays the fishing village. In 1986, an international foundation was established to look after and secure the preservation and reconstruction of Nyksund. At this time several students came from Germany to initiate the restoration of the buildings. Today Nyksund is an often visited place during the summer, with cafes and overnight accommodations. The sculpture "Etterbilder" ("Afterimages") by Inghild Karlsen stands on the quay on the island Nyksundøy. It was set up in 1995, in conjunction with the collection titled Artscape Nordland (Skulpturlandskap Nordland).
