 Fredensborgveien 102 og 103

Fredensborgveien 102 og 103 ( Fredensborgveien 102 and 103)
Early modernism was based on the idea that form follows function: that design was derived from practical considerations; and internationally it appeared during the late 1920s. In the Nordic countries the ideas were picked up and transformed into a style that was called "funksjonalisme" (functionalism) during the 1930. Those who did not like the new architectural style, gave it the nickname "funkis" as an insult. However, nowadays "funkis" is no longer a derogatory term. It's used to describe a style of two storey villas, houses for one or two families, with: nearly flat or low pyramidal roofs; a combination of horizontal and vertical cladding; horizontal connected rows of windows and the characteristic corner windows. The style typically has simple designs without ornamentation (particularly if compared to older architectural styles).
