The street Styrmannsveien is part of Mortensnes a residential area situated at the northwest side of Tromsøya that was developed during the late 1960s and early 1970s. The development consists of detached, semidetached and terraced houses.

Styrmannsveien numbers 10 and 12 are two detached houses each with its own garage, all set on a hillock and grouped to form an rectangular open courtyard. The houses sit on a slope at a right angle to each other and thereby create a sheltered outdoor space. The courtyard has trees, shrubs and a lawn and the paths and driveway are paved, mainly with concrete setts.
